Formerly known as the Community Law Project, our lawyers have helped since 1985 build, strengthen and support nonprofits and small businesses that contribute to economic development and provide social services in low-income neighbourhoods. Our work focuses on historically disinvested communities of color in Chicago`s South and West Side. Our pro bono lawyers and experienced legal staff provide not-for-profit leaders and small business owners with the knowledge they need to maintain the quality of their programs, improve outcomes and drive economic development. The Chicago Lawyers` Committee recognizes that structural racism is a major driver of economic injustice. We work to eradicate racism and end poverty in our city and coordinate our activities closely with our community partners. The Chicago Lawyers` Committee for Civil Rights offers the Emerging Nonprofit Certificate of Training program to nonprofit founders who are interested in a new nonprofit organization or who are in the process of creating a new nonprofit. We offer an abbreviated virtual version of our not-for-profit emerging training program.

The Pro Bono Litigation Clinic at UIC`s John Marshall School of Law provides legal representation in a wide range of civil and criminal cases.
