Security Management Course Requirements

Graduates of Bellevue University`s Security Management program are prepared for this: hands-on experience in protecting individuals and organizations from security threats. This course introduces the procedures used in criminal cases involving the use of computers and cyberspace. It explores the history of computer crime and how technology has created new ways of committing traditional crimes, as well as entirely new opportunities for criminal behavior. Examines risk situations, management concepts and techniques, and the impact of security and compliance policies from a business perspective.

Topics include: different strategies and aspects of risk management security; the role of supply chain management in retail; global supply chain risks and risk mitigation; and the types of losses incurred by retailers. This course introduces learners to a diverse group of topics and issues within the homeland security organization. Topics include historical perspectives on homeland security, all-hazards methodology, critical infrastructure sectors and protection, weapons of mass destruction, contingency planning and response strategies, national security, civil liberties, legislation and public administration, among others. Learners will also examine critical coordination and communication between government agencies and private entities. This course addresses ethical issues in the field of security both theoretically and applied. Particular emphasis is placed on examining the relationship between ethical principles, moral and normative judgments. Prerequisite: Admission to the Accelerated Study Program Safety Management (SMGT). The Michigan State University Certificate in Safety Management is a nine-credit graduate certificate. The program is open to all interested persons involved in this type of work, including professionals and graduates.

Enrollment in the university`s Master of Criminal Justice is not required, but this additional content may be of interest to security management professionals working in law enforcement facilities. Prerequisite: ENGL101 This course explains how to identify vulnerabilities and potential threats to an organization and how to measure the effectiveness of selected security programs. It develops students` skills to review and create surveys, audits, questionnaires, and procedural guidelines used by security professionals to address risks.
